Sunshine “Sunny” Powers
Owner of Love on Haight
Founder of Colors of Love (On Haight)
Queen of Haight Street & all that Sparkles
Sunshine spent her youth on this very corner, outside and inside this beloved shop back when it was Positively Haight Street.
In 2012, when it became Jammin on Haight, Sunshine started to manage the shop & became part owner soon after.
During the shop’s time as Jammin on Haight, Sunshine dedicated her time to cleaning up the corner and creating a better community. She helped start a nonprofit that in its 5 years helped get over 450 Homeless Youth
off of Haight Street.
In 2017, the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love, Sunshine purchased the shop from Benjamin with money donated to her by a major donor of her Homeless Youth Nonprofit. Instead of Paying the money back, Sunshine put all the money back into creating a better community.
Love on Haight was born on January 1st, 2017.
In 2018, Love on Haight & Sunshine were recognized with awards from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the Senate, the House of Representatives, California’s Board of Equalization & the California State Assembly for their work with the homeless youth of Haight Street, the massive donation drives that they provided during the Santa Rosa + any fires after and their devotion to creating a better community for everyone.
In 2022, Sunshine decided to open her own nonprofit, Colors of Love (on Haight) a Tiedye Education center with a focus on a Women’s Prisoner Reentry Tiedye program. Art is therapy, and we all deserve a second chance….(maybe not always from the same person :)
It is Colors of Love's goal to open a Women’s Prisoner Reentry Cut & Sew Factory, filling a sector of manufacturing that is desperate for employment, all the while, 60% of Women work in the cut & sew factories while in prison. Colors of Love would provide a wage that hopefully will be able to change generational wealth, as 85% of women coming out of prison are heads of their households. It would also bring Fashion to a whole different level of “ethical.”
Sunshine is dedicated to her Community,
her Family, her Team and
Leading with Fairness & Love.
Throughout her time on this hallowed corner, Sunshine has become a pillar of the community and has worked hard to protect that the spirit of the Haight Ashbury & San Francisco remains true to its roots, while ensuring that the same Love, Magic & Spirit carries on to tomorrow.
